On Monday, November 25, the Department of Electrical Engineering proudly hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil its newly renovated student and faculty space on the 13th floor of the Mudd Building. This milestone represents a significant step forward in fostering collaboration and innovation within our department. It will significantly enhance the 13th floor space which has not undergone a major renovation for decades. The new space will accommodate over 10 faculty and over 40 students.
Columbia’s Dean of Engineering and Applied Science, Morris A. and Alma Schapiro Professor of Electrical Engineering Shih-Fu Chang inaugurated the space by cutting the ceremonial ribbon and sharing welcoming remarks. Following his speech, EE Department Chair Gil Zussman expressed heartfelt gratitude to the EE staff, and Columbia University Facilities and Operations team, the School of Engineering faculties team, whose collective efforts made this project a reality. Special recognition was also given to former EE department chairs Profs. Peter Kinget and John Kymissis, who initiated and led this transformative undertaking, as well as Shakespeare Gordon Studio and SPK Lewis for their exceptional design and construction coordination.
Attendees gathered to tour the space, enjoy light refreshments, and celebrate this new chapter for Columbia EE. The event marked a moment of reflection on the collaborative spirit and shared vision that brought this vibrant new environment to life.
