Adjunct Professor Anwar Walid and his team have won the 2019 ACM SIGCOMM Networking Systems Award for the development of Multipath TCP and its Linux kernel implementation. The award is given to “recognize the development of a networking system that has had a significant impact on the world of computer networking”. Multipath TCP has evolved to a high-performing system running on millions of servers, access-gateways and clients. Multipath TCP seamlessly aggregates the capacities of multiple access technologies and it is now an integral part of ATSSS (Access Traffic Steering, Switching and Splitting)for 5G.A key contribution of Dr. Walid to the system is the Balia congestion control algorithm and its Linux kernel implementation which previously won the 2017 IEEE Communications Society William R. Bennett Prize.
