James Anderson Promoted to Associate Professor

The Department of Electrical Engineering is delighted to announce the promotion of Professor James Anderson to Associate Professor, effective January 1, 2025. This milestone reflects his exceptional achievements in research and academia.

Professor Anderson has been a member of the Columbia Engineering faculty since 2020, following a distinguished tenure as a senior research scientist in Computing + Mathematical Sciences at the California Institute of Technology. Before joining Caltech, he was a Junior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, where he earned his DPhil (PhD) in Engineering Science and served as a member of St. John’s College and the Department of Engineering Science.

His research interests span optimal and robust control theory, optimization, and data privacy, with a broader focus on the mathematical foundations of cyber-physical systems. Applications of his work include advancements in power networks and smart grids, areas critical to modern infrastructure and sustainability.

Professor Anderson’s promotion highlights his leadership in advancing the field and his commitment to education and innovation.
