2017 Graduate Student Awards

The Electrical Engineering Department hosted its annual End of the Year Graduate Student Awards party on May 15, 2017. This year’s party brought together the entire Electrical and Computer Engineering student population, along with faculty, staff, and guests, to celebrate the department’s student body and achievements. Along with graduate student awards, the EE Ambassadors where also recognized for their work in admissions efforts. A special note of gratitude for her six years at the helm of the department was presented to Professor Keren Bergman, outgoing chair. Congratulations to all the winners!

Armstrong Memorial Award

Awarded annually by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering to one outstanding candidate for the MS degree to honor the late Edwin Howard Armstrong, professor of Electrical Engineering and inventor of wideband FM broadcasting, the regenerative circuit, and other basic circuits of communications and electronics. 

  • Guoxiang Han – Guoxiang received his MS degree this February 2017. He is now is PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Peter Kinget. 

EE Collaborative Research Awards(s)

To be given to PhD candidates who make a superb contribution to a collaborative research effort.

  • Jianxun Zhu – Jianxun is a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Peter Kinget. He will be defending. 
  • Jelena Marasevic – Jelena was a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Gil Zussman. She received her PhD degree this past October 2016. 

Jury Award(s)

Is for outstanding achievement by a graduate student in the areas of circuits, systems and communications, and signal processing.

  • Mehdi Ashraphijuo – Mehdi was a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Xiaodong Wang. He received his PhD degree this past February 2017. 
  • Tolga Dinc – Tolga is currently a PhD student with Prof. Harish Krishnaswamy. 

Millman TA Awards

Awarded to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding performance as a Teaching Assistant.

  • Guoxiang Han – Guoxiang received his MS degree this February 2017. He is now a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Peter Kinget. 
  • Xiaoqing Yong - Xiaoqing received her MS degree this February 2016. She is now a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Matthias Preindl.

MS Award of Excellence

Awarded to the MS students with the highest GPAs

  • Nanyu Zeng – Nanyu is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Ken Shepard. Nathan just received his MS degree this October 2016. 
  • Youjia Zhang – Youjia received the MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Harrison Liew – Harrison was a BS/MS Integrated student. He received his MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Shang Liu– Shang received the MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Shuhao Wu – Shuhao received the MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Changtai Liu – Changtai received the MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Ke Li – Ke received the MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Tom Cheng – Tom received the MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Shreya Gautam – Shreya received the MS degree this February 2017. 
  • Zheng Shou – Zheng is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Shih-Fu Chang. Zheng received his MS degree this October 2016. 

MS Research Award

This award is presented to MS candidates who make a superb contribution to a research project.

  • Mohammad Zayarb – Mohammad is currently a MS student and will be getting his degree this May 2017. 
  • Ziyi Zhu – Ziyi will start his PhD this fall 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Keren Bergman. Ziyi received his MS degree this February 2017.
