Xiang Meng

Research Interest

Prof. Xiang (Alex) Meng is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. He completed his B.Sc/B.Eng at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and MS/PhD at Columbia University. Before joining SEAS, Prof. Meng was a Senior Staff Member at SubCom (Tyco Telecom). In this role, he contributed significantly to designing long-haul, coherent, undersea transoceanic networks for sensing and data communications.

Prof. Meng's research explores the forefront of photonic devices, coherent optical systems, network technologies, and the advancement of electronic-photonic design automation processes. Additionally, he teaches courses such as Quantum Optics, Lightwave Devices, and Lightwave Systems, guiding students toward technological advancements.

In addition to his academic and research contributions, Prof. Meng serves as the Technical Director at the Center for Ubiquitous Connectivity (CUbiC), an SRC JUMP 2.0 center based at Columbia University. This highlights his dedication to fostering collaborative research initiatives and promoting innovation. As a Broadening Participation Champion for CUbiC, Prof. Meng actively advocates for diversity and inclusivity, ensuring that a wide range of perspectives contributes to the center's success.
