Conclusions

In conclusion an ultrasonic analog front end (AFE) was designed, fabricated, and tested as a part of Columbia University's ELEN6350 course. The chip featured two distinct input channels with 8 different gain settings to dynamically tune the output signal. Additionally, this AFE featured a built in 70kHz anti-aliasing filter and an 8-bit SAR ADC. From the measured performance, the AFE showed a voltage/transimpedance gain range of (20db-50db/115dBOhm-150dBOhm) and an SFDR of (LNA/CA: 38.9dB/27.2dB). Finally, after characterization, an ultrasonic range finder was realized using this AFE. With all gain states, and a Murata MA40S4S 40kHz ultrasonic transducer, ranges >500cm were accurately measured. In conclusion this AFE has demonstrated practical applications for both biomedical research instrumentation and piezoelectric sensor integration
