Browser Notes

This documentation has been created for best viewing in fourth-generation browsers (Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, or Netscape Navigator 4.0) as it uses JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets. The best visual appearance is achieved with Internet Explorer 4.0, for which we provide clickable expanding/contracting  menus in the contents pane.

While other browsers are supported, the visual appearance may be degraded. Older browsers also have serious bugs. For example, Netscape Navigator 3.01 on UNIX incorrectly caches JavaScript files and dumps them on the screen, instead of showing the HTML file in which they are included.

Instead of creating a very dull set of HTML pages, trying to accomodate all possible browser versions (and their bugs), we opted on focusing on latest-generation browsers while still providing usable content for others.

If you encounter serious problems in visual appearance, you may want to skip frame-based viewing and start browsing directly from the Welcome page.
