2001-01-18: Matlab
If you're not familiar with Matlab, I recommend you try this tutorial, Getting started with Matlab, from the site of Matlab's producers, the Mathworks.
If you have difficulty getting access to a machine running Matlab, or your version of Matlab doesn't include the signal processing toolbox, please let me know so we can try and figure out a solution.
Here are a few Matlab commands you might find useful:
  • wavread - read a WAV-format soundfile
  • specgram - plot a spectrogram (requires signal processing toolbox)
  • print - print the current figure display to a printer or to a file
In each case, enter "help <command>" for more information.

2001-01-17: Making a web page
You can make a web page from your AcIS/CUNIX account. Here is a description of how to set up a CUNIX web page.

2001-01-17: Wavesurfer
The program I was using to play soundfiles and look at spectrograms in class is called Wavesurfer: here is a link to the Wavesurfer home page. It's available for Unix, Macintosh and Windows. I like it, although it's got a few bugs.
