EE Alumna Miriam Marwick Receives Prestigious Award for Excellence in Research

ALEXANDRIA, VA (September 2019) – Miriam Marwick, Ph.D., received Institute for Defense Analyses’ (IDA’s) 2018 Andrew J. Goodpaster Award for Excellence in Research.

“This award recognizes Dr. Marwick’s development of important new research areas, the impact of her analyses, and the leadership she has demonstrated on a variety of tasks at IDA,” said IDA President, Dr. David S.C. Chu. “She has exhibited extraordinary analytical, management, leadership, and interpersonal skills – particularly in conducting one of our highly influential studies.”

A research staff member in the System Evaluation Division, Marwick led a 2016 congressionally-mandated assessment of the Army’s air/land tactical network. During this study, she reached out to various stakeholders, including the Department of Defense (DoD) and community members in applicable industries. Marwick was determined to obtain a variety of perspectives on the problem. The final report was widely distributed and well-received within DoD, Congress, and industry.

This prestigious award is named in honor of the former IDA president and trustee and is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional analytic achievement within the IDA research community.

Marwick graduated from Columbia University with her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and earned her doctor of philosophy degree in electrical and computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

She is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Association of the United States Army, and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.
