VisGenie --

a universal visualization system

Problem Definition

VisGenie is a generic visualization system for multimedia streams and the associated metadata stream. Such a visualization system will not only create fresh and vivid impression on the audience, it will also be beneficial for researchers working on analyzing the media data, in that it can improve our understanding as we have a better presentation of multimedia information.

System

Current system components include: the media renderer, the feature display, the frame display, the scalable event display, the system initializer, and the external data interface. The components are integrated to perform synchronized display; the appearance of the interface can be fully customized to suit a new visualization task. Screen shots of 3 actual sample application can be found here.

Tasks and Directions

- Building an interactive subsystem for the user to customize new demos. This include the definition of a generic data protocol, subsystem structure design that is both functional and user-friendly, UI design, realization ...
- More visualization schemes such as extension of the current 3-D display, ViBE interface, iconic representation, optimization in redering speed
- Identifying further exciting directions and open problems in information visualization for multimedia
