We had to spend our first night in Krabi so we could catch the ferry for Ko Phi Phi the next morning so our best choice according to the guides was Ao Naang. Unfortunately we didn't see much because it was raining like crazy, but the hotel was really nice. Keep in mind that we went during the low season so all the tourists were broke backpackers that were at the end of their vacation. Ao Nang looked like a really nice place during high season so maybe you woukd like to check it out.
