EE3301 (Electronic Circuits)

• Working knowledge of Laplace and small signal frequency domain circuit analysis
• Introductory course in electronic circuits, including some simple analog circuits
• Basic understanding of semiconductor device operation (pn diode, MOS, Bipolar) and models

Description:

• Basic & advanced aspects of analog integrated circuit design
• General purpose operational amplifiers as basic example
• Enhance understanding of the trade-offs involved in analog circuit design
• Introduce ‘real-world’ design issues like robustness for process, voltage and temperature variations
• Use design project to let the student step through the different stages of an analog integrated circuit (block) design
• Basic hand-calculations and computer aided analysis techniques are used

• Review of integrated circuit device characteristics & models
• Review of elementary 1 transistor amplifiers
• Two transistor amplifiers
• Current Mirrors, active loads
• Output Stages
• Operational Amplifiers
• Frequency Response of Integrated Circuits
• Feedback techniques for Integrated Circuits
• Frequency Response & Stability of Feedback Amplifiers
• Differential Operational Amplifiers
• Voltage and Current References (optional)
• Review of the practical application of an OPAMP in e.g. filter
• Other Topics: Noise, non-linearity, mismatch, MOS vs Bipolar

Homework: assignments every week or replaced by projectwork
