Services We Provide
Prioritization of Problems
Problems in the EE network are responded to based upon a prioritization scheme.
Although most requests are processed in first come first serve order, an exception
this rule can be made in the event of a major problem. These problems are
addressed in the following order:
- System-wide network connectivity
- System-wide email
- Teaching requests
- File servers
- Hardware problems
- Local connectivity problems
- Local application problems
- Printer problems
Operating Systems We Support
The EE department maintains a mixture of systems running various operating systems. If you are interested in purchasing a new system, please consult
with us. We will gladly assist you with this, providing recommendations for
both hardware and software. Currently, the system administrators for the EE department of Columbia University provide support for the following operating
systems:
- Windows 2000/XP Professional
- Windows Server 2000/2003
- Red Hat Linux Advanced Workstation/Server 4.0
- Solaris 8, 9, 10 (SPARC)
- Mac OS X
Data Backup and Recovery
All home directories, select project directories and the mail server are being backed up
nightly. As an EE user, your home directory should be accessible from your local
workstation, regardless of what operating system it is running. You home directory
is a good place to store your essential data, as it is backed up to tape every night.
Please email for instructions on how to
access your home directory from your workstation.
