December 2007, System Lockups in VLSI and ILAB labs.

We have been receiving a number of complaints of machines locking up while runnning cadence simulations in the VLSI and ILAB labs on the 12th floor of Mudd.  We are not certain what the problem is, but suspect that is related to machines having problems writing temporary files to the network share.  If you encounter such problems please change the following in the Analog Design Environment:  "Setup -> Simulator/Directory/Host" change the "Project Directory" to read"/tmp". Please report your results to troubleATee.columbia.edu. Thanks.

December 2006, EE to transfer mail to CUIT.

EE will be transferring its mail stores to CUIT mail services. We will continue to create EE email addresses but they will simply be aliases that deliver to each user's personal CUIT account. Please read the EE Mail Transfer Guide for more information.

September 2006, 1218 Mudd - Machine Names Changed.

We have renamed the machines in the 1218 Mudd VLSI Lab to vlsi1.cisl.columbia.edu through vlsi12.cisl.columbia.edu. We hope the name change will make it easier for everyone to connect the Mudd 1218 machines remotely.

Using Remote X11 Sessions

The X11 protocol allows Unix applications that utilize a GUI to send their graphical output to a remote system. This allows EE students to use graphical Unix applications running on remote EE systems from the convenience of their local workstations. Detailed instructions can be found on this page.
