The basic program requirements are specified in the SEAS bulletin and summarized in the M.S. Approval Form.
Charts showing the interrelation of many of the department's graduate course offerings can be found on the course flowcharts page.
Further details can be found in a set of answers to frequently asked questions about the MSEE program.
For general information on applying for admission to the MS program, see the school's admissions page.
For current Columbia University FFSEAS seniors who meet certain criteria, we have a special express application process for the Electrical and Computer Engineering M.S. programs. (This should not be used by students who may be interested in the Ph.D. or M.S./Ph.D. programs.) For more details, please see our express program description and express application form.
Current Columbia University FFSEAS juniors who are majoring in Electrical Engineering and meet certain criteria are encouraged to consider our new Integrated BS/MS program. (This should not be used by students who may be interested in the Ph.D. or M.S./Ph.D. programs.) For more details, including information about how to apply, please see our Integrated B.S./M.S. program page.
Optional M.S. Concentrations
Students in the electrical engineering M.S. program often choose to use some of their electives to focus on a particular field. Students may pick one of a number of optional, formal concentration templates or design their own M.S. program in consultation with an adviser. These concentrations are not degree requirements. They represent suggestions from the faculty as to how one might fill one’s programs so as to focus on a particular area of interest. Students may wish to follow these suggestions, but they need not. Details, including advisers and course lists, can be found in the Optional M.S. Concentrations section of the bulletin.
