EE & CE Graduate Students Orientation

September 06, 2017

Fall 2017 kicked off for the Electrical Engineering department on August 31st with its annual graduate student orientation.  Hosted by the EE staff at Low Library, the event was held for all incoming masters, doctoral, and combined plan Electrical and Computer Engineering program participants.

Approximately 250 students settled in under the beautiful Low Rotunda to be welcomed by department chair, Professor Peter Kinget.  Overviews of the EE and CE program where provided by Profs. Zoran Kostic and Charles Zukowski, the latter chair of the CE program.  This was followed by the introduction of the five research umbrellas of Columbia’s EE department by various faculty.

Department and school career services presented as well and were available for follow up during lunch. A student group panel, comprised of Columbia IEEE Chapter members and EE Ambassadors, provided feedback on housing, program details, and student life beyond campus.

In the afternoon, participants were able to visit several open EE labs, such as the CLUE (), Bionet Lab,  and CISL among others. They also had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with a faculty member, each student meeting an advisor that aligned with their interest of study.  For a more detailed overview, including presentation slides, please see here.
