The 2012 Armstrong Memorial Lecture was delivered on Feb 1st by Dr. Mark Irwin Jacobs. His title was "Technology and Business Innovations at Qualcomm with Impact on a World of Nearly Six Billion Cellular Subscribers" (slides available here).

Dr. Jacobs told a packed Davis auditorium about the history behind the creation of Qualcomm and the foundation of the communications industry in southern California. He went on to present a number of visionary future mobile applications, from interlinked elementary school fieldwork through to embedded continuous health monitoring and the
ways that improved communications can provide a leveling force in the developing world.

The talk was very well received by students and faculty eager to learn from a key figure in the development of wireless digital communications and in the foundation of the multi-billion-dollar cellular industry.
