EE Design Challenge, Fall 2010

09/10/2010

We are pleased to announce the first annual Electrical Engineering Design Challenge. In this year's challenge you will combine old and new technology and explore a classic communication platform - the tin can telephone. Teams will design and build a transmitter and receiver that can efficiently send messages over a string.  At the end of the challenge teams will compete in the "Tin Can Triathlon", three events that will determine which system is the most low-power, high-throughput, and long-range.  Each team that enters should consist of 2-4 students and a faculty advisor. Components will be provided.  The winner of the triathlon will receive a prize, and all participating students have the option to receive one point of credit through the course ELEN E3999 (see the online bulletin). Complete specifications will be announced at a competition kickoff meeting now planned for Friday, Sept. 24 at 4PM in the EE Conference Room (EE Office, 13th floor Mudd).  More details can be found here.
